Victims of dog bites can suffer serious injuries

Dogs are man’s best friend, and when they are properly trained and controlled, they can be loving members of a family and, really, of a community. But not every dog owner is responsible and not every dog owner properly disciplines and trains their pet. These dogs can turn out to be aggressive, and they are more likely to push boundaries. As a result, they can cause significant, and even fatal, injuries to unsuspecting and innocent people.

In the state of Pennsylvania, dog owners have responsibilities. When they fail to live up to them, they can be held liable if they attack or bite another person. The owners must:

  • Keep their dog properly restrained, even when the dog is on their property.
  • Muzzle their dog, when appropriate.
  • Keep control of their dog, even if it is off leash.

Should a dog owner fail with these responsibilities, and their dog were to attack and cause injuries to someone, they could be held liable with a lawsuit. Such a lawsuit is important for the victim because they will be dealing with immense pain from the attack, as well as medical debt to treat their injuries.

In these cases, it is important for the victim to have experienced legal representation. At DelVecchio & Miller, we have handled many dog bite cases over the years, and we will advocate on behalf of dog bite victims who simply want justice. Dog owners have a lot of responsibility, and they must live up to that. When they don’t, they must be held accountable.
