3 tips for staying safe on your trip for turkey

Thanksgiving is coming up, and like most holidays, there are risks that only appear during these days. Whether it’s out on the roads or in the home, keeping your family safe is a major responsibility. Here are three tips for keeping everyone safe.

Travel with time to spare

One of the first reasons that people get into accidents during the holidays is because of speeding. Trying to rush to get from one place to another is risky on its own, but with the increase in traffic, it can result in accidents. Avoid speeding to get where you’re going, and try to keep plenty of space between you and the vehicles around you. If you are involved in an accident because a driver was being reckless, then you’ll be able to seek a claim against his or her for dangerous behavior.

Report tipsy drivers

Thanksgiving comes with its fair share of wine and alcohol, making it slightly more likely for drivers to be out on the roads while intoxicated. At home, make sure none of your guests leave while they’re still tipsy. On the roads, report any drivers who are weaving or acting recklessly. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported that there were 416 people killed over the 2012 Thanksgiving holiday weekend, so taking time to report dangerous behavior can help get poor drivers off the roads before they cause an accident.

Tie down loose carpets or rugs

It’s not just the roads that are dangerous during this time of year. At home, it’s possible to have accidents caused by loose carpets, rugs or other trip hazards. A good way to avoid accidents is for the homeowner to tape down the edges of rugs or to use non-slip backings to p revent them from sliding out of place. If they bunch up and cause you to fall, then you could seek compensation from the homeowner for any injuries you’ve suffered.

These are just a few ways to stay safer this holiday season. Enjoy your holiday and be careful out there.
