Police search for dogs after 5-year-old attacked

On Behalf of | May 12, 2017 | Dog Bites |

While the following story didn’t occur here in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, it will send shivers down the spine of any parent. Three dogs are being sought by police after at least one of them was involved in an attack on a 5-year-old girl. The extent of the girl’s injuries are not known at this time, but the property where the dog attack occurred is owned by a 48-year-old who owns 12 dogs.

Nine of the dogs on site were not involved in the attack, and the three that fled or are being hidden by another person or party are currently being searched for by police. At least one of the dogs was supposed to be turned over after it was involved in a previous dog bite incident. The source article alludes to the owner intentionally failing to turn the dog over after that incident.

This is a disturbing story, but sadly not an uncommon one. It has many typical traits to a dog bite story: an irresponsible owner, a dangerous dog that has been involved with controversy before, and serious injuries to a child.

Children are often the target of dogs because they are smaller and dogs can more easily harm them (when they attack). Dog owners are supposed to be responsible people who properly train their dog and have control of their dog at all times. When they fails in these responsibilities, they make themselves liable when something like this story happens.
