An interesting story is emerging out of the Mall of America. Though that may not be here in Pittsburgh, the story is an important one nonetheless. The incident in question dates all the way back to 2010, when a 10-year-old girl was walking through the mall at the time. She was passing through the food court when she slipped and fell on a clear liquid. As a result of the slip and fall, she suffered a serious knee injury that left her on crutches for months.
She had to avoid sports -- activities she once loved -- as a result of the injury. But what is notable about this incident, besides it's unfortunate nature, is that video footage was captured of the incident. And as fate would have it, two other people slipped and fell on the same liquid within nine minutes of the then 10-year-old getting hurt.
It took mall staff at least four minutes to address the wet spot on the ground after the 10-year-old fell. There was no warning sign placed until the staff came out to clean up the mess. And wouldn't you know it, after the spill was "cleaned up" another fall occurred. So did they even fully clean up the spill? Or was it done poorly, with residual liquids left there without being completely dried or cleaned?
In either case, the mall staff did not address this situation appropriately. The video footage is a big piece of evidence in such a case.
