A horrible accident claimed the life of a 21-year-old man in Indiana County, Pennsylvania, an area some 70 miles to the east of Pittsburgh. The accident happened last Friday morning, when the 21-year-old was traveling in the westbound lanes of SR-56. Suddenly, a large truck hauling coal and traveling eastbound went around a bend in the road and strayed into the westbound lanes. The truck collided head on with the 21-year-old’s car, killing him.

The truck driver was not injured in the accident, and the police are investigating the crash. It certainly seems that negligence is at work here, given the out-of-control nature of the truck, but we will have to wait and see what the results of the investigation are.

In the meantime, it must be said: truck accidents like this happen all the time. At this time of the year, when roads are slick and winter conditions can make the road far more dangerous than usual, truck accidents can claim lives. Truck drivers may be operating their vehicles in unsafe ways, or their vehicles may simply be out of control due to inappropriate weight distribution of their cargo, or even unsecured cargo.

Whatever the case may be though, every fatal truck accident must be fully investigated so that we know the exact circumstances that precipitated up to and led to the ultimate crash. In this case, the details could be crucial to a wrongful death lawsuit.
