Pickup truck strikes, kills pedestrian near Pittsburgh

On Behalf of | Apr 4, 2018 | Motor Vehicle Accidents |

An accident that happened earlier this morning has left one pedestrian dead and the police investigating the incident. The crash happened around 5:30 a.m. and there are questions about the visibility at the time of the accident. There was also substantial traffic from the sounds of it, meaning that there were plenty of witnesses for the police to talk to in order to find out what exactly happened in this particular case.

The driver of the pickup truck that hit the pedestrian remained at the scene of the crash, and the police will continue to investigate the situation. The woman who was walking across the street and was struck by the vehicle was declared dead at the hospital.

Given the nature of the crash, it does seem like a true “accident.” But that doesn’t mean that the driver is innocent. It is still possible that the driver wasn’t obeying the speed limit, or failed to brake in a timely manner, or was distracted in some way in the build-up to the crash.

The police report will eventually detail some of the more intricate pieces and factors that were involved in this crash. The loved ones and family members of the victim could use this evidence to hold the driver accountable in civil court. Whether that happens or not remains to be seen, but a fatal accident will always bring difficult challenges to the surviving family members and loved ones.
