Car accident causes house fire in Pennsylvania

You never really know when a car accident can strike -- even when you're just sitting in your own home.

A woman in Moon Township, Pennsylvania, accidentally set a major wreck in motion when she used the lights of her parked Jeep to illuminate a hornets' nest she was trying to eradicate sometime around 11 p.m. on Aug 12.

Somehow, as she re-entered the Jeep Wrangler, the Jeep slipped out of gear. The woman lost control of her Jeep, which rolled over a gas meter and burst into flames. The Jeep then rammed straight into the side of the home on Scottsdale Drive, promptly setting the house on fire.

Firefighters had to be called to the scene to shut off the gas supply to the home before the fire could be put out. The crash left behind a mess, a mostly destroyed home and a burned-out Jeep. However, the damages could have been worse. Nobody was in the home at the time of the accident, and the Jeep's owner also escaped serious injury.

Accidents like these may be uncommon, but they hold several important lessons that people need to keep in mind:

  1. You're never fully immune from a mishap, no matter what you think.
  2. Even when no one gets seriously injured, the property damage can be extensive.
  3. You may have to pursue a lawsuit to obtain full compensation for your losses.

It can sometimes be difficult to determine who is at fault for complex car accident cases. Therefore, it's always wise to seek legal advice if you've been the victim of one.
