Crashes are common: Get help when you need it

Car crashes are something you always hear about, but if you've never been involved in one, you may think that it will never happen to you or someone you love. At the moment you find yourself facing a crash, you may realize that there is no way to avoid it or make emergency maneuvers to try to avoid getting hit directly. However, the reality is still the same: There is a risk of serious injuries or death.

When drivers don't consider the lives of others and cause a collision, then it's fair to seek compensation from them for the injuries that you've suffered. There is no reason that you should have to cover your own financial losses or struggle as you try to recover from serious injuries.

Car crashes are extremely common

In 2016, approximately, 3,277,000 crashes were reported by the authorities. In those collisions, 37,461 people were killed. When you look at statistics like this, it's mind-boggling. That is almost a major city's worth of people being injured each year. For reference, Pittsburgh has 302,407 people (estimated in 2017), while Philadelphia is estimated to have a population of approximately 1.5 million. Imagine knowing every single person that you know or that is around you as a victim of a crash in those cities, and that's not even two-thirds of the total number of people hurt by crashes in 2016.

According to Traffic Safety Facts 2016 Data by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the most common place to be involved in an accident and to be killed was in a rural area (50% of cases). Urban areas followed closely behind at 47% of fatalities.

Crashes don't always involve drivers, either. Approximately 840 cyclists were killed in 2016, which added up to 2.2% of all traffic fatalities.

If you're involved in a crash, know where to turn

When you're involved in a collision, it is important that you know what steps to take to get the help you need. You may want to speak with your attorney about negotiating with the other party's insurance company, or you may need assistance figuring out how much your claim should be worth.

Injuries and deaths are common in crashes, affecting many people all over the United States. If you're involved, make sure you get proper medical care and know your legal rights.
